A SURRENDERED HEART

Today’s Reading:

Job 1:1-20

“Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I shall depart. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised” (Job 1:20b)

A Man’s heart is the place of decision making. Your behaviour as a child of God is a reflection of your heart. Similarly, decision to serve the devil is also from the heart. Where your treasure is, is where your heart is. Your commitment to God or otherwise is a function of your heart. A Man whose life is surrendered to God will always give priority to the things that pleases Him notwithstanding the situation he finds himself. A surrendered heart is a crucified life. Like Paul the apostle, he says; “I have been crucified with Christ……….the life I now live in the flesh, I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me”(Gal 2:20). He always focus on God and the thing that pleases Him.

Job in his predicament, did not allow his wealth to control him. He positioned his heart rightly and never allowed wealth to be his master. To Job, he only lost physical treasures while his heavenly treasure is still intact. How can he deny God who has been faithful to him v.20. Like Polycarp- he said ”Eighty-six years I have served Him, and He has done no wrong. How could I then deny Him? Job’s heart is not controlled by his wealth but the creator of Heaven and Earth. After all in the midst of his challenges, he was still able to give God praise “The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; May the Name of the Lord be praised” (Job 1:20). Where is your heart? Towards God or worldly things? If your heart is totally surrendered to God you can always trust Him for everything. Like He did to Job at the end of his trial. You will always see His appearance in your situation.

Do not be discouraged, only believe and surrender yourself to Him. He will establish and stabilize you. A surrendered Heart will be refreshed as he daily hear, read, study, memorize and meditate, on the word of God. Ask God to deal with whatever is snatching your heart away from Him.
