Mark 1:40-45

There is a saying that if you wish to travel fast, go alone; if you wish to travel far, go with others. I would like to say, if you wish to travel far and fast, be wise. Why is wisdom important? Wisdom is the ability or gift to tell the difference between right and wrong. And to choose right and flee from wrong. Our generation is suffering from a deficiency of wisdom. There are a lot of knowledgeable people, a lot of informed people, a lot of “educated” people, a lot of popular and wealthy people (wealthy in material resources), and a lot of powerful and influential people. But we lack a lot of wise people; we do not have a lot of people who can tell themselves the truth. We have a lot of people who are intentionally blind. People are consciously sedating themselves so that they do not face the truth. Some are telling themselves a lot of lies to the degree that they now see them as truth.

This is very important because we are on a precipice; we are on the end of a cliff where the next step means we are just going to go down. Morally, financially and spiritually, we are just a toe away from slipping into oblivion. The worst part is that no one is screaming, “Stop!!! Let us not go any further because the end of this is death.” Wisdom is needed. It is the only thing that can bring us back to our senses—we need the ability to choose what is right and flee from evil and death. We need to stop the blame games. We need to stop blaming others for our problems. Stop blaming society, your family, the government; stop blaming your parents, your children or the situation of the country and start taking responsibility for your life, for your actions and for your future.

So, how can you become wise?

  • Make your heart soft. If today, you hear God’s words, listen and do not harden your heart. Allow the Holy Spirit to speak to you.

  • Jesus is the answer to all your problems. Jesus and Jesus alone. None of your problems is beyond the scope of His domain and influence. He is in the business of saving souls from the pits of death and the precipice of destruction. Come to Him.

  • Listen to the Word of God. Always approach God’s word with the question, “What is God saying to me today?”

  • Flee from Sin. If you do not know the difference between good and evil, find someone who is spiritual and knowledgeable and learn from them.

  • Admit your need for God. You do not need money, or fame or a husband or wife. You do not need sex or drugs. You need God. Admit that God alone can solve all the problems you have right now. Money cannot solve them. You cannot drown them in entertainment or pleasure. Be like the leprous man and say to Jesus in prayer: ‘If you want to, you can cure me.’ (Mark 1:40). Come today; tomorrow might be too late.

  • Spread the Word. Promise to make Jesus known. Pledge your time, talent and resources and tell everyone you meet that “Jesus is Lord and He wants to save you”. No sin is too great for God to forgive. No situation is so bad that it is irredeemable. No curse is so potent that God cannot reverse. Illness is not a match for Him. Jesus is the king of your life.

To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”

If you said the prayer, Congratulations! Prayerfully look for a living church and meet the resident reverend, pastor or priest.

Prayer:

  1. Lord, make me wise by the indwelling of Your Holy Spirit.

  2. Set me free from the many troubles that threaten my well-being.

  3. Soften my heart to hear Your word and save me by Your power through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

  4. Lord, bless me with wisdom, help me to know what is right and do it, and what is evil and flee from it.

  5. Order my steps on the path of hope, humility and single-minded devotion to You, so that my days may be long, sweet and a blessing to everyone I encounter through Christ our Lord. Amen.
