ALTERNATIVE GOD

Today’s Reading:

Ezekiel 32:19-26

In the above account in the book of Exodus 32, Moses had gone up to the mountain to commune with God, and to bring back the tablets of stone.  He had delayed his coming back, and the children of Israel, having waited for so long decided to move on without him. They approached Aaron, who was then the high priest and asked him to make them a god that would lead them to the promised land. He moulded a golden calf out of the earrings he collected from them and declared that to be the god that brought them out of Egypt. Through that singular act, great sin was brought to the camp.

In our society today, many Christians are seeking an alternative god due to impatience. The children of Israel got tired of waiting for their God-ordained leader to bring them word from God. Many have prayed and looked up to God for answers, and it appears God is not answering or has gone on vacation.  They have, therefore, sought alternatives. The fact that God is not answering you at the time you want does not mean that He has forgotten or abandoned you. In Luke 18 vs 1-8, our Lord Jesus Christ gave a parable of the widow and the unjust judge. At the end of the parable, He said that God will surely answer and avenge His people even though He bears long with them. Jesus then asked a question in verse 8 saying: ' Nevertheless when the Son of Man cometh, shall He find faith on earth? '

This implies that it is a lack of faith that makes people lose patience and look for alternative gods.

How do Christians seek alternative gods?

  1. When they are unable to wait on the Lord in prayer and or fasting

  2. When there's an idol in the heart. Ezekiel 14. This means that they have already made up their minds about who they want to consult, but only trying to test God

  3. When they ascribe glory due to God to themselves or to someone who has helped them.

  4. God is not their priority when it comes to issues that concern their lives.

It is therefore important for us to take careful heed to avoid seeking for alternative to God either consciously or unconsciously.

To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness, in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”

If you said the prayer, Congratulations! Prayerfully look for a living church and report to the resident reverend, pastor or priest.

Prayers:

  1. Repent of every sin of idol worship

  2. Idols of my father's house speaking against my destiny catch fire in the name of Jesus

  3. Evil voices asking me to seek an alternative to God, be silenced by fire in the name of Jesus

  4. O Lord let the zeal of Your house consume Your church in the name of Jesus

  5. O Lord bring peace into this nation in the name of Jesus
