Today’s Reading:
Psalm 128:1-6
“Blessed is every one that fears the Lord; that walketh in his ways. For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands: happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee. Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table. Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that fears the Lord. The Lord shall bless thee out of Zion: and thou shalt see the good of Jerusalem all the days of thy life. Yea, thou shalt see thy children's children, and peace upon Israel. (vv. 1-6 KJV)
The above Scripture eulogises the benefit of having the fear of God.
What is the fear of God?
It starts by explaining that it is not just the fear of God, but to also walk in His ways.
The Bible says that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. (Proverbs 9:10). Divine wisdom will guide you through life and helps you confront the challenges of life in these last days.
It is the beginning of knowledge (Proverbs 1:7).
It prolongs life (Proverbs 10 vs 27). It is the lack of the fear of the Lord that makes people to dabble into sin and eventual spiritual or physical death.
It is the instruction of wisdom (Proverbs 15:33). When you have the fear of the Lord, the Holy Spirit will be there to impart you with the wisdom you need for everyday living.
The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life. (Proverbs 14:27).
Stemming from the above therefore, we should all endeavour to have the fear of God in our lives. The points listed above will be like a check list of what you need to do to guide you in having the fear of God.
