Today’s Reading:
NUMBERS 16: 20- 35
“And the earth opened her mouth and swallowed them up and all that belonged to them went down alive into the pit and the earth closed on them.” (Numbers 16:32- 33)
Korah from the lineage of Levi, Dothan and Abiram from the family line of Reuben rose against Moses with two hundred and fifty princes who were famous among the Israelites. They accused Moses of claiming to be more pious than others. In a nutshell, they challenged Moses’ leadership. In challenging our leaders, especially spiritual leaders, caution needs to be taken because one cannot tell what a leader saw or what God told him before he did what he took a certain action. We can call the attention of our leaders to their faults with a sense of humility. The punishment or discipline of a leader is not in the hands of the followers. Any follower who exercises or stands in a position to deal with a leader ordained by God is fighting with God and no one who fights with God can win.
The scripture equates the sin of rebellion to witchcraft (1st Samuel 15:23). Witchcraft has been described to have a link with sorcery, occult, incantation and so on. Rebellion is a grave offence which God frowns at. The irony of sin is that one sin doesn’t stand alone, sin brings about or leads to other sins.
Rebellion manifests in the following ways:
When you inherit someone’s enemy or your friend’s enemy.
When you hate someone who another person speaks ill of and the person never offended you.
When you hate a spiritual leader and want everyone close to you to do the same.
Rebellion at times is subtle, one may be involved unknowingly and the repercussions are grievous. Korah and all who ganged up against Moses were swallowed alive. The pathetic thing is that they were not the only ones who perished. All their families and belongings perished with them. As a wife or husband, if your spouse is rebelling, caution him or her because the repercussions might affect you. Never gang up or speak ill against a man of God, allow God who called him to do the judgment. Even if a man of God misbehaves, raise a prayer altar and intercede for him, instead of killing him with words or ganging up against him to frustrate his ministry. Some men of God have been wounded on the battlefield, while arrows of immorality have penetrated the lives of others. In all, men of God need someone who will always pray for them.
JAMES ALADE
To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness, in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”
If you said the prayer, Congratulations! Prayerfully look for a living church and meet the resident reverend, pastor or priest.
Prayers:
Every satanic gang up against men of God, scatter by fire in Jesus’ name.
I shall not be a victim of rebellion in Jesus’ name.
In any way I have participated in rebellion unknowingly, have mercy on me in Jesus’ name.
