Today’s Readings:
Psalm 139:1-12, 22-23.
In this Psalm, David talks about God's knowledge of every human being living on the earth, both believers and unbelievers alike. Verse 1 says: O LORD thou hast searched me and known me.
This means that every thought of a man's heart is known to Him. If we have this consciousness in us that God knows our very inner thoughts, we would be careful about the kind of things we carry in our hearts concerning others. Romans 12 vs 1-2 admonishes us to have a different mindset from the people of the world. The Bible says that the imagination of man is continually evil. It also says that the heart of man is desperately wicked (Jeremiah 17:9).
God, therefore, wants us to renew our minds as evidence of genuine repentance. Are you still nursing unforgiveness, and planning on exacting your own pound of flesh? It shows that you are not truly born again. That kind of state of mind brings a cloud of darkness over your life and separates you from God. You will find it difficult to hear from God and as such unable to truly enjoy a good relationship with Him. Psalm 139 is actually telling us that there is nothing you can hide from God. He knows about your fears and your hurts. Hand over that battle to Him, and He will give you the victory that you could never have attained on your own. Zechariah 8 vs 17 says: And let none of you imagine evil in your hearts against his neighbour; and love no false oath: for all these are things that I hate, says the LORD.
When God says He hates something, you will do well to avoid doing it.
