GOD'S MERCY AND JUDGMENT

Today’s Reading:

Psalm 101:1-8 KJV

I will sing of mercy and judgment: Unto thee, O LORD, will I sing. I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way. O when wilt thou come unto me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart. I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; It shall not cleave to me. A froward heart shall depart from me: I will not know a wicked person. Whoso privily slandereth his neighbour, Him will I cut off: Him that hath an high look and a proud heart will not I suffer. Mine eyes shall be upon the faithful Of the land, that they may dwell with me: He that walketh in a perfect way, He shall serve me. He that worketh deceit shall not dwell within my house: He that telleth lies shall not tarry in my sight. I will early destroy all the wicked of the land; That I may cut off All wicked doers from the city of the LORD.” (Psalm 101:1-8)

The world we live in is full of all kinds of trouble.  Men's hearts are failing them because of the multitude of problems confronting them. Wickedness is prospering as rightly stated in the Bible. The heart of man is waxing cold (Matthew 24 vs 12; 2nd Timothy 3 vs 1-5. This is the time for each and every one of us to make a decision to stand for and with God.  As the psalmist said in the above Psalm, that he had made up his mind to seek perfection in God and to seek after God with a perfect heart. This means that there will be no blemish in his character.

The Bible commands us to be perfect even as our Father in Heaven is perfect (Matthew 5 vs 48). So for every Christian, it is important for all your works, thoughts and speech to be perfect before God. It is in this determination that he said he will remove a froward (habitual disobedience) life far from him.

In response to the psalmist's pronouncement, God declared the following:

  • He that slanders his neighbour, God will cut him off.

  • He that has a high look, and a proud heart, God will not allow to come close to Him.

  • A deceitful person will not dwell in the house of God

  • A liar will not be allowed into the presence of God

  • Finally, God promises to destroy the wicked in the land.

It is important, therefore, for every Christian to make a conscious effort at perfection. God has given us the grace when He made the declaration: "be ye perfect even as your Father in Heaven is perfect " (Matthew 5:48).
