GOD’S PERFECT TIMING

Today’s reading:

Exodus 5:10-23

“For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in your name, he has done evil to this people: neither have you delivered your people at all.” (v. 23)

It is common to hear people make such statements as: “God’s time is the best”; “God’s time cannot be faulted”, “God is the God of perfect timing”, “God is always on time”; and so on. To be “Perfect” means; to be exact; without flaw, blemish or fault; complete; exacting/conforming to definition or purpose; and so on. “Timing” refers to: coordinating something; fixing; choosing; adjusting; ascertaining or recording of times. It is often said that God’s time is different from that of man; that God’s timing is very perfect; and so on. These assertions arise from the facts of God: being a perfect God, who is not a man that He should lie, nor a son of man that he should repent. Has He said and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good? (Num.23:19); God, who cannot lie (Tit. 1:2); the God who appoints to everything a season and a time for every purpose under heaven (Ecc. 3:1).

Also, God’s character and antecedents prove that He is perfect in everything, including his timing. He is the Omnipotent (Matt. 19:26), Omniscience (1 John 3:20), Omnipresent (Jer. 23:24) and Omnibenevolent (1 John 4:8) God. As the one who declares the end from the beginning and from ancient times things that are not yet done (Is. 46:10), definitely He is in control of times and the timing of everything on the earth. In Dan. 2:21, it is written that He changes the times and the seasons and that we should not forget this one thing, that with him one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day (2 Pet 3:8). He cannot, therefore, be too early or too late, He is always timely. There are many references in the scripture about the “appointed time” and “at the fullness of time” (Gen. 18:14; Heb. 2:3; Gal. 4:4; Eph.1:10).

From the above, it is obvious that God cannot be overtaken or moved by man’s complaints, accusations or fears. In Today’s reading in vs.22-23, we read about how Moses accused God brought trouble on the Israelites who were serving as slaves in bondage in Egypt, after Joseph who brought them there had died, and another Pharaoh was on the throne. Moses complained to God that He had not delivered the people at all. Given the compassion God had for the people and because of his Omnibenevolent nature, He comforted and assured Moses that he would see what He would do to Pharaoh (Ex 6:1-6). God recounted his covenant with their forefathers, which was about five hundred years before, and He consoled them through Moses that He would bring them out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, into the land He had sworn to their forefathers.

When Moses relayed the message to the Israelites, they did not heed him, because of the anguish of spirit and cruel bondage. This reaction is expected from natural people. It is interesting to note that God did not hurriedly fulfil his promise of deliverance until the timing was perfect! In fact, not until Chapter 12:41 and v51 is it recorded that it came to pass at the end of the 430 years, that all the armies (children of Israel under the leaders of their twelve tribes) of the Lord went out of Egypt. This indeed was God’s perfect timing! It is instructive to learn that when it is God’s perfect timing in a man’s life, everything will be perfect! We should imbibe the scripture in Romans 8:28, that all things work out for one’s good. Once we cast all our burdens on him, we should wait patiently (Lam. 3:25-26) and rest on his word that his thoughts towards you are of good, to give you an expected end (Jer. 29:11). Be assured that his timing is perfect all the time and all the way!

However, for you to enjoy God’s perfect timing, you must have a relationship with him. You must accept Jesus as Lord and Saviour through acceptance of his sacrifice for the sins of the world, and of forgiveness. Once you become a born-again child of God, everything He has purposed for you will be timely delivered.
