Today’s Reading:
Luke 18:1-8
“And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him though he bears long with them.” (Luke 18:7)
Jesus spoke a parable in our text about a widow and a judge. This widow kept coming to the unjust judge to get justice against her adversary. She persisted until the judge granted her request. Jesus now said in verse 7; and shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him though he bears long with them. The cry of God’s children is precious and never goes unnoticed by heaven. The woman is a picture of Gods elect who never give up in the place of prayers. They agonise over a matter until answers come and testimonies abound. This is not a prayer of show that is common in our days but an outcry that will not let go until attention is given. This can be likened to the wrestling between Jacob and a man supposed to be an angel in Genesis 32; this Peniel experience was an unforgettable one in the life of Jacob. God still avenges his children, in fact one of his names is an avenger.
The world is full of injustice especially in this part of the world, Nigeria, with unjust killings, kidnapping, banditry, terrorism of all sorts. Some people have been rendered homeless, some become widows while children are orphaned. At times one will ask, is God really there? Does he answer prayers? Several questions have been raised by children of God. Some have been stripped of their property unjustly and no one seems to do anything about it. One thing that is certain is that God is an avenger. I don’t know what has been taken away from you unjustly and it seems life is unfair. Be rest assured that he will come through for you at the right time. Wipe away your tears and trust God who is an avenger. Anyone taking vengeance is putting himself in the place of God. Leave that battle in God’s hand. Nevertheless don’t relent like that woman in Jesus’ parable in the place of prayers. Pray Until Something Happens (PUSH).
JAMES ALADE
To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness, in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”
If you said the prayer, Congratulations! Prayerfully look for a living church and meet the resident reverend, pastor or priest.
Prayer:
Arise Oh Lord and fight my battles in Jesus’ name.
Powers terrorising me let fire of God destroy them in Jesus’ name.
Avenge me God of all household enemies in Jesus’ name.
Everything stolen and taken from me by force, Oh God the avenger arise on my behalf in Jesus’ name.
