Today’s Readings:
Hebrews 4:12-16
Psalm 19:8-10,15
Mark 2:13-17

In his first letter to the Corinthians, Saint Paul refers to a familiar piece of wisdom: ‘bad company ruins good morals’ (1 Corinthians 15:33). This insight is found across various cultures and traditions. We also say, ‘Show me your friends, and I will tell you who you are.’ There is a shared belief that the people we surround ourselves with will influence who we become. However, the phrase ‘bad company ruins good morals’ certainly did not apply to Jesus.
In today’s gospel, we see him intentionally associating with those deemed undesirable by society. When he calls Levi, a tax collector, to follow him, Jesus dines at Levi’s house in the company of other tax collectors and so-called sinners. The scribes challenge this, asking his disciples, “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?’ (Mark 2:16). Their question reflects the assumption that such a company corrupts. Yet, the reverse happens: rather than being diminished by their sin, Jesus elevates them through his goodness, much like a doctor healing the sick without contracting their illness. As sinners in various ways, we are all in need of the same healing and transforming presence that Jesus offers to lift us.
How can we find healing in Jesus Christ?
Desire to be better than where you are.
Respond to Jesus’ call to follow Him.
Leave behind your sinful past and respond to divine grace.
Forgive yourself of your past sins.
Accept Jesus’ healing power in confession.
Study and keep God’s commandments.
Discover wisdom from the Sacred Scriptures daily.
Stay close to Jesus no matter what.
Receive the Eucharist as often as possible for renewed strength.
Bring others to Jesus.
Allow your relationship with Jesus to influence your work and other relationships.
Do not allow anyone to distract or discourage you from following Jesus.

To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”
If you said the prayer, Congratulations! Prayerfully look for a living church and meet the resident reverend, pastor or priest.
Prayer:
1. Lord, thank you for calling me by name and desiring a relationship with me.
2. Help me to desire Your company, to be transformed by Your presence in Your Word and in the Sacrament/Holy Communion.
3. May I become a better version of myself with each passing day.
4. Let my relationship with You affect all that I say and do today, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
5. My healing has come. My deliverance is here. I am exalted above every fear and doubt. May God dwell in me and inspire my thoughts, desires and decisions through Christ our Lord. Amen.
