IS YOUR LIFE REALLY YOURS?

Readings:

1 Corinthians 12:12-14,27-31

Psalm 100; Luke 7:11-17

Dear Topper,

Jesus’ most spectacular miracles were those that bordered on life —the healing of the sick and the raising of the dead. Today’s Gospel presents us with the raising of the widow’s son in Nain. And people immediately recognised that Jesus was a prophet. But he was more than a prophet. He is the author of life. He said, “I am the resurrection and life” (John 11:25). Not the resuscitation and the life, not the healer or prophet but the resurrection. All who believe in him, even if they die, are assured of eternal life.

In the second Eucharistic prayer, we pray for the dead with the words: “Remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection and all who have died in your mercy: welcome them into the light of your face”. The first group are Christians who believe the words of Jesus. The second group are those who lived according to God’s commandment even though they did not profess faith in Christ, through no fault of theirs. Our faith will be fulfilled when Jesus raises us to life —because we are made for immortality.

What are the things that will deprive us of eternal happiness?

  • Stubbornness in sin.

  • Love of evil (instead of repentance).

  • Hatred for people (choosing not to forgive).

  • Lack of reverence for sacred things (treat holy persons, places and things with reverence).

  • Misuse of your gifts for profit or selfish gains.

  • Forgetfulness of the sacredness of your body.

  • Failure to pray.

  • Lack of charity (failure to love others genuinely).

  • Lack of compassion towards the poor and suffering.

To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness, in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”

If you said the prayer, Congratulations! Prayerfully look for a living church and report to the resident reverend, pastor or priest.

Prayer:

1.      Lord, I love You more than life itself.

2.      Lord, I place myself in Your hands.

3.      Lord, help me to know and love You more.

4.      Lord, give me a forgiving spirit, in Jesus’ name.

5.      Lord, give me compassion towards all those you place in my path today.

6.      Lord, raise me above the sins and limitations that keep me down.

7.      Lord, raise me up on the last day, to be with Your forever. Amen.

8.      I shall live a long and fruitful life. My life shall abound in good works, peace and prosperity and be delivered from evil in Jesus' name. Amen.

9.      May God preserve you from all harm, provide your needs and keep you safe for eternity.
