The feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph was celebrated recently. We can say all the beautiful things in the world about this family but there is something we should strive to learn from them today. And it is the knowledge they have of each other. Mary and Joseph had to learn who Jesus was and helped him as he became more aware of his mission on earth.
Unlike them, our biggest deficit as families is that we have poor knowledge of each other. If you doubt me, I want you to take the following test and tell me how well you did:
List the dates of birth of your children without mixing them up.
What is the name of the primary school your children attended or are currently attending?
Which of your children struggles/struggled through school?
Men which of your wife’s pregnancies was the most difficult?
Who are your children’s best friends?
What is your children’s favourite meal?
Which chores do your children enjoy?
Which chores do your children run from?
Are your children left-handed or right-handed?
State your children’s name in the following order: first name, middle name and confirmation name
Which of your children is more likely to get into trouble?
What do your children want to be when they grow up (not what you want them to be)?
All these are questions about mindfulness. Knowing the little details about each member of your household is how you build a solid home, not by making money or acquiring possessions. You can have all the money in the world and plan for every member of the family to be comfortable but without a conscious effort to know, accept and cherish every one of them, your efforts will be futile. May God help you not to labour in vain through Christ our Lord.

To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness, in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”
If you said the prayer, Congratulations! Prayerfully look for a living church and meet the resident reverend, pastor or priest.
Prayer:
May the Holy Spirit give us the grace to love and respect every member of our family, to consciously raise our children in the way of God, to help them when they are struggling, correct them when they are straying and encourage them when they are succeeding and it shall be well with us in Jesus’ name. Amen.
May God bless you and your family and help you to experience the love, care, support and prayers of those you hold dear through Christ our Lord. Amen.
