Today's Reading:
Luke 2:35
"Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.” (Luke 2: 35)
The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the seal and confirmation of the Salvation of the whole world. Jesus Christ symbolises Salvation. The passion for Christ entails His arrest, trials, death and resurrection. These were what prophet Simeon told Mary the mother of Jesus in our working text, in the book of Luke. On the eighth day He was brought to the temple for circumcision and naming ceremony, according to the Jewish tradition. All that resulted in the passion for Christ eventually took place in the presence of Mary. John19 verse 25 “Now there stood by the cross of Jesus His mother, and His mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene".
What the passion for Christ represents should be in our hearts to the piercing of our hearts to run away from sin. This will be revealed in our disposition towards God and man vis-a-vis our relationship with God and man. Though Jesus Christ has resurrected from the dead, but all that He went through – his arrest, his trials, his death and his resurrection should be a caution in our hearts to abstain from all forms of sins so as to prove our assurance of Salvation in Jesus Christ.
