A lawyer took to the social media platform X to report that a divorce was granted to a couple on the grounds of nagging. The grounds for divorce are hinged on a statement in the Nigerian Marriage Act that the marriage has “broken down irretrievably.” As you would imagine, people had comments. What do you think, should a marriage end because one partner is a nag? What is obvious from the case above is our need for peace. “Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the lakeside,” a place associated with peace. A quiet place is an ambience for:
Rest – Make out time to be by yourself and cease every form of activity.
Silence – Give your mind and senses a break from every form of noise.
Retreat – Step aside from your routine.
Prayer – Spend time with God, speaking and listening to Him.
Renewal – Consider the purpose of your actions and your state of life.
Rejuvenation and replenishing – During this period, reflect that you are a human being and not just a “human doing”.
Reconnection with God – A gentle reminder that all you are doing is in God, with Him, through Him and for Him.
Review of the immediate past – An unexamined life is worthless. Be honest about what you are doing and make changes in your routine where necessary.
Preparation for the task ahead – Set clear daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly goals. You will be grateful to God and yourself at the end of the year.
With this plan in place, you will be more productive and useful to yourself and to others. When people came to Jesus for healing and deliverance, He could help them because He always made time to rest and replenish lost strength. Do you find it hard to create time for rest in the day, week or month? Time will not create itself; you have to set it aside. Begin first with the consciousness to take a break now and then. See every opportunity you get to go somewhere different as God’s invitation to step away from work and rest a bit. A short nap during the day can do a lot for your mind. When you are overwhelmed, a brief moment of prayer can extend grace you never knew you needed. Taking a break from some people to reassess your relationship will provide clarity and better understanding. Do not wait until things fall apart or have broken down irretrievably before fixing them. Always remember, at the beginning of each day, to hand your day over to God— and ask Him to have His way with you.

To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”
If you said the prayer, Congratulations! Prayerfully look for a living church and meet the resident reverend, pastor or priest.
Prayer:
Holy Spirit of God, Spirit of peace and tranquility, fill my mind today and always with Your divine presence.
When I am weak, raise me. When overwhelmed, calm me with your gentleness. When I am confused, enlighten me. When I am discouraged, inspire me. Help me always to rest in You through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Spirit of God, Spirit of peace, thank you for the gift of life. Fill my heart with your holy presence.
Spread your influence beyond my strength and grant me favour too great to comprehend through Christ our Lord. Amen.
