PUT OFF THE OLD MAN WITH HIS DEEDS

Today's Reading:

Colossians 3:9

"Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds". (Col. 3:9)

The word of God is ever complete. Going by the topic of this message, we discover that, it is expected of us to put away the old man, and its activities. This shows that it is not enough for us to declare salvation alone without deleting the deeds of old life from our lives.

The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:17 that "Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature, old things are passed away, behold all things are become new". It is a common knowledge that a lot of believers stopped at salvation alone in their so- called relationship with God without graduating to sanctification. Sanctification is a level where you ask what you need to do from God before acting, if He does not approve of it you drop it and if approved you go ahead with it. Just like brother Paul on his way to Damascus, in Acts 9:6 "And he trembling and astonished said, Lord what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.”

Sanctification check- mates us from past life of fornication, lying, uncleanness, concupiscence, idolatry, blasphemy, anger and so on. With the presence of old man in one’s life, there will be no achievement, the devil will just be tossing one around. Therefore, let us drop the old man and carry a new man in us which includes patience, love, gentleness, faith and so on. Then we begin to enjoy the grace and the blessings of the Lord.
