Today’s Reading:
Revelation 22:12-16
“And behold, I come quickly and My reward is with me to give to every one according to his work.” (Revelation 22:12)
Jane was the cynosure of all eyes; several awards were credited to her account based on relentless work done as a secondary school student. The accolades and encomiums not quite long penetrated her and she started feeling on top of the world. She relented in her voracious reading and assiduous efforts previously put into her studies. Without much ado, she started dropping in her grades though some people called her attention but she turned a deaf ear. On the valedictory service day, it was a bombshell as she barely received two awards. Others who were focused and persistent in their studies were given the awards.
For every work done, there is a reward. In the scripture under study, Jesus spoke categorically and unequivocally that His reward is with Him to give to every one according to their work. The reward is directly proportional to the work done. Every good and bad work done will be rewarded. The dictionary defines reward as a recompense for worthy acts or retribution for wrongdoing. Any time you see the reward in the scripture, it connotes both the positive and the negative. The nature of the reward of the righteous are: rooms or mansions (John 14:2), and crowns (I Corinthians 9:25-27, I Thessalonians 2:19, II Timothy 4:8, James 1:12, Revelation 2:10, I Peter 5:4). Bad earthly experiences will be gone (Revelation 21:4). There will be joy unspeakable in heaven. While the unrighteous reward will be damnation, gnashing of teeth in hell fire (Revelation 20:12-15).
The coming of Jesus is imminent. This reward, he will give based on an individual’s work. One, the reward is for everyone the rich and the poor, the righteous and the unrighteous, the pulpit and the pew. Everyone will appear before the judgment seat to receive a reward either good or bad. What are your works? I hope you are not relenting in doing good work just like Jane mentioned above in which another person received her rewards. Don’t be deceived, every good work on earth will be duly rewarded in heaven but imagine a man who has received his reward and he is not born again, where will he carry his reward to? Every action and inaction, words spoken and thought, intention and actual activity will be highly rewarded. God cannot be mocked, whatever a man sows so shall he reap Galatians 6:7-10. Every good work without Jesus once you die is straight to hell. Why not come to Jesus so that your reward will be bountiful in heaven?
JAMES ALADE
To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness, in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”
If you said the prayer, Congratulations! Prayerfully look for a living church and meet the resident reverend, pastor or priest.
Prayer:
Strengthen my heart never to give up in my walk with God in Jesus’ name.
May I not lose sight of Jesus as I walk on this terrestrial ball in Jesus’ name.
No one will take my reward in heaven in Jesus’ name.
Every trap set by the enemy to get me down shall not succeed in Jesus’ name.
Whether the enemy likes it or not, I will make it home in Jesus’ name.
