Today’s Readings:

1 Peter 4:7-11

Psalm 96:1-3,7-8,10

Luke 5:1-11

It is a new day and let’s be real, work is not always enjoyable: long hours, unrealistic expectations, toxic environments, unnoticed dedication and internal conflict. The joy and love that you once found in your daily work seem to have slowly decreased. And the interior conversations you have with yourself about “what’s wrong” seem to have increased. Each one of you has received a special grace, so, like good stewards responsible for all these different graces of God, put yourselves at the service of others. so that in everything God may receive the glory, through Jesus Christ, since to him alone belong all glory and power for ever and ever. Amen (1 Peter 4:9-11).

Each day, you hope to regain what was lost, but you seem to only feel more distant from the work that you have been given. You pray and try your best to push forward day by day, but you still don’t feel fulfilled or motivated. It is hard, I can tell. In this workplace, I want you to take courage in knowing that your gifts and talents are never wasted, even when they seem or feel muted. In this season of Lent, you are being invited to search for what might be causing distress and tension. Discerning what it is that is being asked of you when it comes to your role in the workplace that you currently serve in.

• Is Jesus asking you to focus more on fulfilment than on financial security?

• Is He asking you to see your current challenge as an invitation to trust Him?

• Are your setbacks the ways God is keeping you away from unforeseen troubles?

• Are your gifts stepping stones to a bigger mission?

Whatever it is, I pray that God will give you the disposition of St. Peter, who listened to Jesus and was led beyond a miraculous catch of fish to a bigger vision of fishing people for God’s kingdom. Make room in your heart for God to do more with you. I pray that God will use your experiences to open your eyes to the needs of people who are captives to sin, just as He did for St. Patrick. There is always a bigger mission if we allow God to lead us, guide us and show us the way. The glory of God should always be your biggest ambition. "All labour that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence." - Martin Luther King Jr.

Task: Do your work well and stay away from workplace gossip.

To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”

If you said the prayer, Congratulations! Prayerfully look for a living church and meet the resident reverend, pastor or priest.

Prayer:

  1. Eternal Father, I commit myself along with my mind, heart, soul and body to you this new working day. I devote every breath I take, my creativity and the project I shall handle today to You. Let it all give glory to You. Amen.

  2. Christ be beside me, go before me, be behind me, be within me, be beneath me and above me. Amen.
