THE BLESSINGS YOU DESIRE

Today’s Readings:

1 Corinthians 7:25-31

Psalm 45:11-12,14-17

Luke 6:20-26

God desires the good life for you. The word “Blessed” means “the good life”, Makarios in Greek, and its Hebrew equivalent is Ashrey or Barukh which refers to blessings from God. God wants to bless you. But our understanding of blessings is cause for concern. We desire the good things of life and the blessings of God but we want to do our own will in order to attain it. This is impossible. God has His plan for us and they will lead us to true and lasting happiness (see Psalm 119:105). We need to know these plans and how do we key into them. We also need to trust in God’s plans for us.

Here are some things to think about today:

  • True riches are found in giving your time, talent and treasures for the good of others.

  • Patience while seeking your goals is safer and more secure than cutting corners.

  • You may have to endure disappointments and rejection for a while but in the end, your efforts and perseverance will pay off in experience and financial security.

  • You may appear weird and unusual because you do not subscribe to other people’s idea of fun, relationship or lifestyle but you will be spared the trauma and emotional damage that a lot of them carry around.

  • The goal of life is to make heaven. Everything you have on earth and all you do is just a temporary assignment.

  • Live with a sense of detachment. Attachment to things is the reason we are unhappy. When your happiness depends on the things you seek, you will never be happy.

  • Treat people well; do not use them or disrespect them—everyone is in your life to teach you a lesson or get you through a season in your life.

  • Do not overthink anything. There is a solution if you pray, seek advice and draw upon your past experiences.

  • Do not be in a hurry. You will make a lot of mistakes.

  • Be contented —greed and a lack of self-discipline will get you into trouble.

  • There is a waiting period for everything. If you rush into anything, you will certainly make mistakes. Good things come to those who wait.

  • Sex unites a married couple and through them new offspring are added to our human family.

When we use sex any other way than the Creator intended, we end up as “Ex’s”.

To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud:  “Father, I acknowledge my sin against you. I repent and ask for forgiveness in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of your Holy Spirit, take control of heart and lead me in your path of righteousness. Thank You Lord.”

If you said the prayer, Congratulations! Prayerfully look for a living church and report to the resident pastor or priest.

Prayer:

  1. Lord, help me to trust You and your will for my life.

  2. Lord, help me find joy in bringing joy to others.

  3. Lord, help me to seek the good of others as I seek mine.

  4. Lord, give me patience in seeking Your blessings.

  5. Lord, give me self-control with regard to my sexuality.

  6. Lord, help me to be faithful in my relationship with you.

  7. Lord, light my path and protect me from evil. Amen.

  8. May God bless the work of your hands, reward your patience and crown your selfless service with resounding success and eternal joy. Amen.

  9. May God's goodness and blessings follow you today and secure you always in Jesus' name.
