 THE MERCY OF GOD

Today’s Reading:

Psalm 118:1 KJV

“O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: Because his mercy endureth forever.”

(Psalm 118:1 KJV)

What is Mercy?

  • It is to be kind or forgiving

  • It is the compassionate treatment of others especially those under one’s authority.

  • It is to show clemency

  • It is the disposition to be kind and forgiving

  • It is not getting what one deserves

  • Mercy is an attribute of God which is to inspire man.

  • Mercy is the only thing that only God can give because it is in His nature to do that. We must always thank God for His mercy

Notes on the mercy of God:

  • It endures forever

  • The mercy of God brings salvation

  • The mercy of God has not allowed our enemies to destroy us.

  • The mercy of God is the reason lukewarm Christians are not destroyed.

  • The mercy of God is selective. Romans 9 vs 15. If you are reading this piece, it is because of the mercy of God upon your life.

What the mercy of God can do. Psalm 136.

  • It makes God to perform wonders (Psalm 136 vs 4)

  • By wisdom, He created heaven and earth because of His enduring mercy (Psalm 136 vs 5-9)

  • He delivered the children of Israel (vv. 11-15

  • He can destroy kings for your sake (vv. 17-20)

  • He will transfer the wealth of the wicked to you because of His mercy

  • We are fed, clothed and protected every day because of His mercy.

Romans 9:15 makes us understand that the mercy of God is selective.  It is therefore imperative that we enter into a covenant of mercy with God as God did with David in 2nd Samuel 7:14-15. This was reemphasized in  Isaiah 55:3 and is referred to as the "sure mercies of David." It is this covenant of mercy with David that spoke for blind Bartimaeus when he was screaming, "Jesus thou son of David have mercy on me " (Mark 10:46-52).

To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness, in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”

If you said the prayer, Congratulations! Prayerfully look for a living church and report to the resident reverend, pastor or priest.

Prayers:

  1. Jesus thou son David have mercy on me in the name of Jesus.

  2. O, Lord, I plead for Your mercy over my family, in Jesus' name

  3. O, Lord, I plead for Your mercy over Your church, in Jesus' name

  4. O Lord I plead for Your mercy over this nation, in Jesus' name.

  5. I enter into a covenant of mercy with my God over my life and family in the name of Jesus.
