THEY KNOW NOT THE MANNER OF THE GOD OF THE SLAIN

Today’s Reading:

2 Kings 17:24 – 28

And the king of Assyria brought men from Babylon, and from Cuthah, and Ava, and Hamath, and Sepharvaim, and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the children of Israel: and they possessed Samaria, and dwelt in the cities thereof. And so it was at the beginning of their dwelling there, that they feared not the LORD: therefore, the LORD sent lions among them, which slew some of them. Wherefore they spake to the king of Assyria, saying, the nations which thou hast removed, and placed in the cities of Samaria, know not the manner of the God of the land: therefore he hath sent lions among them, and, behold, they slay them, because they know not the manner of the God of the land. Then the king of Assyria commanded, saying, carry thither one of the priests whom ye brought from thence; and let them go and dwell there, and let him teach them the manner of the God of the land. Then one of the priests whom they had carried away from Samaria came and dwelt in Bethel, and taught them how they should fear the LORD.

The above scripture talks about the time the children of Israel were carried captive into Assyria. The king of Assyria then sent his people to come and dwell in Samaria. These people did not know the God of Israel and how He is to be worshipped. They brought their idolatrous practices to Samaria. The scripture above records that these people knew not the ways of God or, in other words, the manner of the God of the land. God, therefore sent lions among them that slew some of them. In the church today, so many risk being slain by satanic lions because they know not the manner of the God they profess to be serving. The fear of God is fast vanishing in the church today. Traditions of men are fast replacing the word of God, and strange doctrines are being introduced to make the word of God ineffective (Jer. 29:13). 


And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul, to keep the commandments of the LORD, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good? (Deuteronomy 10:12 - 13)

The first step in understanding the God you serve is to fear Him. The key ingredients to understanding the manner of the God of the land, as stated in the above scripture, are these:

  • Fear of God

  • Walk in all His ways

  • Love the Lord

  • Serve God with all your heart and all your soul

  • To keep His commandments and His statutes.


Fear of the Lord:

  • It is the beginning of wisdom. Psalm 111 vs 10

  • It prolongs life. Prov. 10 vs 27

  • It teaches you wisdom. Prov. 15 vs 33

  • It is the fountain of life. Prov. 14 vs 27

  • It instills confidence in you. Prov. 14 vs 26

  • It enables you to depart from evil. Prov. 16 vs 6

  • The fear of the Lord is clean and endures forever.

  • It is to hate evil, pride, arrogance, and the evil way. Prov.8 vs 13.


When you have the fear of the Lord, your enemies will be afraid of you.

It is, therefore, very important that you know the manner of the God you serve. Those who do not know the manner of the God they serve are daily being eaten by satanic lions. May you not be a victim of satanic lions, in Jesus’ name. When you know the manner of the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the following will happen to those who consult strange gods against you:

  • Your God will arise and kill those that want to kill you. Isaiah 43 vs 4

  • Your enemies will fall, and you will rise, just like Queen Vashti fell for Esther to rise.

  • Every pit they dig for you, your enemies shall fall into them. Eccl. 10 vs 8

  • Every evil gathering against you shall scatter. Isaiah 54 vs 15

  • Their weapons against you shall not prosper. Isaiah 54 vs. 17.

To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”

  1. Powers consulting strange gods against my life scatter in the name of Jesus.

  2. Powers challenging the power of God in my life, die in the name of Jesus.

  3. In the face of those asking for my life, O God arise, and introduce Yourself in the name of Jesus.

  4. I uproot out of my life everything resisting God in the name of Jesus.

  5. Problems attempting to mock God in my life die in the name of Jesus (focus on specific problems that you want God to intervene).

  6. Lions from the throne of God, eat up every satanic priest being consulted against me in the name of Jesus.
