Today’s Reading:
1KING 3:5-14
“In Gibeon, the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night. And God said, ask what I will give you.” (1 kings 3:5)

A larger percentage of my years has been spent in schools whether physical or virtual and one thing that is a common denominator is the writing of tests and exams. Some I have passed while some I failed. School examinations no matter how difficult they are, have syllabi or materials from which one will read to get prepared. But there is another examination called ‘Life Examination’ which doesn’t have a specific syllabus or time to write it. This one comes unexpectedly and unprepared. If one fails this exam, there’s no carryover or promotion on trial. You must write it again until you pass.
This kind of examination is set by God. The case God presented before Solomon could be likened to an examination. The question was short and direct, ‘Ask what I will give you’. It was an open cheque. Put yourself in the shoes of Solomon, what would you have asked? I imagine you asking for wealth, fame, power, property or something that is exhaustible. But for Solomon, he asked for what someone would think is too small and that is, an understanding heart to judge and a discerning spirit. These two can be called wisdom. It sounds ridiculous but that was the greatest need for that assignment. What are your requests for the year 2025? Are you asking according to God’s will or selfish ambition? It is not too late to ask for God’s wisdom to navigate the year 2025. A year full of various challenges and it requires wisdom to overcome. Go on your knees now and ask according to His will.
JAMES ALADE
To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness, in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”
If you said the prayer, Congratulations! Prayerfully look for a living church and meet the resident reverend, pastor or priest.
Prayer:
Oh Lord, let your presence journey with me in this new year in Jesus’ name.
I receive wisdom to make decisions in this new year in Jesus’ name.
I shall not fall into error as I journey into the new year in Jesus’ name
At every junction of battle in this year, I shall overcome in Jesus’ name.
