Today’s Readings:

Isaiah 41:13-20

Psalm 145:1,9-13a

Matthew 11:11-15

“Since John the Baptist came, up to this present time, the kingdom of heaven has been subjected to violence and the violent are taking it by storm.” (Matthew 11:14)

What does Jesus mean by the “violent?”

The use of the term violent is not negative. It means “going against the tide” in the opposite direction from the world. Jesus, in his prayer for us, says, “They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world” (John 17:16). This means that while we are physically present in the world, we should not be consumed by its values and trends. That seems to do violence to us and the world because, people will see you and ask, “Why are you different from everyone else? Why are you doing things contrary to everyone else?” This can lead to misunderstanding and make you a sign of contradiction. But in a world that is fast losing its humanity, we need more violent ones to set her straight.

How should you as a Christian live your life?

  • Place your trust in God completely. God is your “destiny helper”. He knows your heart desires and He controls your destiny.

  • Fast and pray as often as you can. You need to keep constant communication with God and be spiritually vigilant.

  • Tell the truth no matter who is hurt.

  • Be faithful to your state of life (married, single or consecrated).

  • Build your character and values and pass it on to your family.

  • Help others: as you seek help, be a source of help to others as well.

  • Live by the commandments of God. Do not hope to gain anything by rebellion, contrary to God’s laws.

St John the Baptist told us: “Prepare a way for the Lord, make his paths straight. Every valley will be filled in, every mountain and hill be laid low, winding ways will be straightened and rough roads made smooth. And all mankind shall see the salvation of our God” (Luke 3:5,6).

To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness, in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”

If you said the prayer, Congratulations! Prayerfully look for a living church and meet the resident reverend, pastor or priest.

Prayer:

1. I pray that you will live a life that pleases God, causes the world to change from its futile and empty ways; and causes others to repent and prepare their hearts for the coming of Christ. Amen.

2. May God grant you strength today to be confident in doing what is right, resolute in speaking the truth, heroic in virtue and exemplary in your way of life through Christ our Lord. Amen.
