YOU HAVE AUTHORITY

Today’s Readings:

Isaiah 30:19-21,23-26

Psalm 147:1-6

Matthew 9:35-10:1,5,6-8

Some so many souls are yet to know Jesus Christ. Over 3 billion people live in India and China and they account for almost half of the world’s population. But of this over 3 billion people, less than 10 percent are Christians. This means that not up to 300 million people in these two countries are Christians. This should give us cause for concern just as a dejected crowd gave Jesus cause for concern. He tells us that the answer is His authority.

He summoned his twelve disciples, and gave them authority over unclean spirits with power to cast them out and to cure all kinds of diseases and sickness. These twelve Jesus sent out instructing them as follows: ‘Go rather to the lost sheep of the House of Israel. And as you go, proclaim that the kingdom of heaven is close at hand. Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out devils. You received without charge, give without charge. Matthew 10:1,5-8

You have received authority by your baptism wherever you find yourself. So, do not complain about how the world is still in darkness and does not know Christ. What are you doing to ensure that those around you know, love and live for Christ by your actions?

Here are some ways to spread faith in Christ according to Saint Ambrose:

  • Know your dignity: ‘In yourself lies the sweetness of your charm, from you does it blossom, in you, it sojourns, within you it rests.’

  • Charity to the poor: ‘It is not from your goods that you give to the beggar; it is a portion of his own that you are restoring to him.’

  • Be exemplary: ‘A good youth ought to have a fear of God, to be subject to his parents, to give honour to his elders, to preserve his purity.’

  • Be always on mission: ‘It is a better thing to save souls for the Lord than to save treasures.’

  • Be courageous in suffering: ‘The devil tempts that he may ruin; God tests that he may crown.’

  • Forgive: ‘No one heals himself by wounding another.’

  • Honour your marital vows: 'If, then, a good marriage is a servitude, what is a bad one, when they cannot sanctify, but destroy one another?’

Which of these quotes by Saint Ambrose speaks to you today?

I pray that you will key into the authority that God has given you (because you have it), and use it to set the world ablaze for God. You have received authority from Christ to make Him known and loved. Each new day is an opportunity to tell others about Him. Will you tell someone about Jesus today?

To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness, in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”

If you said the prayer, Congratulations! Prayerfully look for a living church and meet the resident reverend, pastor or priest.

Prayer:

  1. Dear Lord, I know my sins are many and great, and they fill me with fear, but I hope in your mercies, for they cannot be numbered.

  2. Lord Jesus Christ, Eternal King, God and man, crucified for mankind, look upon me with mercy, I claim your authority to impact the world and hear my prayer, for I trust in you.
